Meloon decides to pursue the boat manufacturing business. He moves his family from New Hampshire to Florida and forms the Florida Variety Boat Company in Pine Castle, FL. 1926 Trailering Boats by the Highway Florida Variety Boat Company becomes one of the pioneers in boat transportation. 1928 Raceboats The company began building small race boats. These were used for several local races around the Central Florida area including on Lake Ivanhoe in Orlando, Florida. 1920s GALLERY PINE CASTLE BOAT COMPANY 1930 The Florida Variety Boat Company is renamed to Pine Castle Boat and Construction Company. 1936 The "Correct Craft" for you! After hearing a radio advertisement describing "The correct heel for your shoe”, Walter C. Meloon thought, ”why not market the boats as "the Correct Craft for you?" Thus, the name was changed to Correct Craft. 1937 Winter Park – The Venice of Florida In 1937, Walt C. Meloon was approached to dredge and build a series of canals throughout Winter Park, Florida for a new attraction. Announced as "The Venice of America,” the 25-passenger Scenic Boat Tours originally used Correct Craft boats and officially began on January 1, 1938. The scenic tour and famous canals continue to be a staple in the Winter Park community today. 1930s GALLERY FACTORY EXPANSION 1942 As demand for Correct Craft boats increased, a new plant is opened in Titusville, Florida. The new factory increased the manufacturing capacity and size of models produced, as Correct Craft began the production of larger models. During World War II, The United States was in need of boats to help move troops and supplies across the Rhine River. WORLD WAR II 1945 During World War II, The United States was in need of boats to help move troops and supplies across the Rhine River. On February 9th, 1945, the government contacted Correct Craft and asked them how many boats they could make by February 28th. They committed to 300, far more than they had ever done in that timeframe. The team at Correct Craft worked six days a week and developed an innovative production process that allowed the factory to exceed the request and produce 400 boats in record time. This event, which National Geographic later dubbed "A Miracle Production," solidified the company's reputation and it received the Army and Navy “E” Award. 1948 First Mahogany Inboards Production begins for the first complete mahogany inboards. These came in numerous sizes, including 19-foot racing runabouts and custom-designed runabouts and cruisers. The largest boats were 50-foot cruisers. 1940s GALLERY THE ATOM 25 1950 The 14' Atom 25 plywood utility boat becomes one of the most sought after Correct Craft models and retails for $1,095. This model paved the way for the future in waterski boats. 1953 Large Cruisers Prosperity leads the company to begin production of larger boats than it has ever produced. Utilizing the greater space that the Titusville plant has to offer, Correct Craft begins to build cruisers and yachts that range all the way up to 50’ in length. 1957 The company scales back the number of available models. With the large rear fins on automobiles so widely popular during the 1950’s, it makes sense that the most popular Correct Craft model at this time is the 17' Star-Flite utility boat. 1950s GALLERY Leo Bentz approaches Correct Craft and offers to sell the mold of the Ski Nautique and brand name in return for a free boat and required maintenance for three years. The company accepts the offer and begins production. The company accepts the offer and begins production. 1966 Orlando Expansion A major expansion of the manufacturing facility in Orlando, Florida takes place. A groundbreaking ceremony is held in order to celebrate the rapid expansion and prosperity this new facility will bring. 1960s GALLERY TEAM NAUTIQUE 1977 As waterskiing continues to thrive, Nautique establishes the first-ever factory waterski team to support the competitive side of the sport. Male and female athletes are sponsored by Nautique and represent the brand at 3-event tournaments across the globe. 1979 Barefoot Nautique With barefoot waterskiing on the rise, Nautique makes the decision to create a boat dedicated to the sport. The Barefoot Nautique is introduced, which has a performance-first focus with larger engine offerings. Swim Platforms Correct Craft is the first to incorporate swim platforms into the boat design. This design proved to be revolutionary with the massive shift to family activities and watersports performed on Correct Craft models. 1970s GALLERY After undergoing a complete transformation, Nautique unveils the Ski Nautique 2001 and receives rave reviews. This model revolutionizes the sport of waterskiing and becomes an icon in the watersports industry to this day. 1983 Bass Nautique With an established knowledge of inland boating, Nautique enters the bass fishing boat market. The Bass Nautique 2018 is introduced and comes in at 18-feet. 1986 Ski Nautique 25th Anniversary Nautique celebrates its 25th anniversary of the Ski Nautique with a limited production run of Silver Nautiques. These rare models have exclusive touches throughout the boat to commemorate the year. 1980s GALLERY WIDENING THE BEAM 1990 Nautique again redesigns the Ski Nautique which features a sloping transom, spray relief pockets and the widest beam of any tournament inboard in history. This new model, nicknamed the “slant back” is now the highest performing waterski boat to date. 1993 The Paragon A limited-edition boat, the Ski Nautique Paragon, is offered. This collector's edition features the latest technology, classic styling and real wood finishes. 1997 Total Surface Control An innovative hull design, Total Surface Control, is debuted on the Ski Nautique. The hull design included numerous benefits, including soft wakes and controlling the spray for a better waterskiing experience. The first wakeboard specific boat is introduced. The Air Nautique offers two brand-new pieces of revolutionary technology: the Flight Control Tower® and and internal ballast tanks known as Total Launch Control®.
