What a weekend at the 51st Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament presented by Nautique. The Masters is consistently the most exciting and prestigious watersports event in the world and this year was no exception.
The tone for the weekend was set behind the incredible new Ski Nautique 200, which pulled the skiers to four new Masters records. When you have been holding an event like the Masters for 51 years the records don’t fall easily, so everyone was thrilled to see the debut of the Ski Nautique 200’s impact on the event. Over the past year we have heard many stories of records being set behind the new Ski Nautique 200, including at the Moomba Masters, so we were not surprised to see more records set all this weekend. These records are in addition to the many “personal bests” skiers regularly report to us after purchasing a new Ski Nautique 200.
This was the first year there has been WakeSkating at the Masters and the crowd was excited to see this new event. We were particularly happy to see Team Nautique athlete Brandon (BT) Thomas (a/k/a DJ Drop Top) win this inaugural event. Congrats BT! We look forward to many more years of exciting WakeSkating at future Masters.
Also on Sunday there was a blast from the past as Andy Mapple and Bob LaPoint competed in a head-to-head slalom competition that energized the crowd and brought back memories of past Masters’ glory. Both skiers did an awesome job with Team Nautique skier Andy Mapple edging out Bob LaPoint in a great event. We appreciate both of these legends thrilling us once again on the waters of Robin Lake.
Speaking of the past we were happy to have longtime Masters Tournament Chairman, Larry Meddock, back working this years’ event. Larry is very highly respected in our industry and for many years was known as “Mr. Correct Craft.” It was fun to be working with Larry and seeing him back at the event, which he had such a big impact on for so many years.
Overall it was a top-notch weekend; the crowds were great, the competition was awesome and beautiful Callaway Gardens was spectacular as always. We will be back at Callaway Gardens next year for Memorial Day weekend and would love to have you join us. Between the exciting competition and the spectacular surroundings at Callaway Gardens it is sure to be a weekend you will remember for a long time. I will look forward to seeing you there.
Enjoy the Nautique life!
